Historic Priory
East Sussex | Ref 31037
Historic Priory dates back to 1121. There is a chapel, a vestry and a great hall located above. The chapel is very intimate and can hold up to 30 people.
This is the oldest part of the house, the rest of the house was built in the 17th century and includes two reception rooms, an entrance and 6 bedrooms and an old kitchen complete with a huge copper still in which the monks used to make their mead.
Each room is different having been built in different eras.
Historic Priory used to be part of Michelham Priory. The monks used to farm the land and they would all sleep in the hall above the chapel and vestry. There is a bee hive in the wall of the hall which has been there for centuries and the bees are a very old rare breed. You can see in the hall where the monks used to be able to remove a stone in the wall and remove the honey. There are exposed beams and exposed brick work.
The chapel, vestry and hall have not changed since 1121 and in surprisingly good condition. The house is grade II star listed and has about 2 acres of land surrounding the property.
There is a pond in the grounds along with a boat house. All the walls are grade II listed as well. There is electricity, water and WiFi onsite as well as two working toilets.
